Mangetout problem
« on: June 12, 2007, 19:39 »
Hey guys
Whats wrong with me mangetout?
I have 6 plants 3 of which our yellowing and producing nobbly pitted pods.
Is this a virus which needs destroying or is it lack of a compound or is it over feeding (liquid seaweed).
I dont think its over feeding as not all the plants have succumbed.

I have searched this problem, even found another allotment website(gasp)
I hope someone knows whats best.

Peas usually don't need feeding.  See legume in the Glossary of Terms in the Welcome forum  All please feel free to vote in the poll & to contribute further terms (with or without definitions) :D

Can only guess at the yellow leaves / pitted pod problem ... mildew??

WG could be right (dammit).

From the 'bible' (condensed)......

DOWNY MILDEW

Yellowish blotches on the leaves of peas, with a pale mauve or brown mould on the underside, Infected pods are spotted & distorted,

Treatment - Spray with mancozeb at the first signs of disease. Repeat fortnightly.

Prevention - Crop rotation, burn affected plants after picking the crop.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Mancozeb is marketed as Dithane - it is not organic
