Mangetout problem
« on: June 24, 2014, 17:12 »
:( Being a newbey to the allotment and my first year of growing Mangetout at the moment they are about 70cm height. Today I noticed that some of the plants were going yellow and the pods were curling and they are also yellow. I would be grateful if someone knows whats wrong and could advise.. Many thanks in advance.
My wife and I were happy for 20 years....then we met

What variety are you growing? Some don't grow much taller than 70cm. (Oregon Sugar Pod which I grow are 90cm, others can be 2m).

I would have thought that if the pods are curling over, that would suggest they are ripe. Are there peas visible in the pod (there shouldn't be when you pick them). If they're ripe, then the plants might be dying off having done their job and created more seed.

Having grown them in the past, if the pods seem a bit fat as well, then they have gone over as HG says. Try giving the some dilute foliar feed just in case they need it.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
