Using my inherited greenhouse - help please?
« on: April 13, 2010, 21:50 »
OK, I have done as suggested on my previous last post.  Fixed all gaps with either glass, polythene or plastic (or hubby did).  Gleaned the glass.  In the beds in the gh I have dug up all weeds (alkanet) and weed roots and got rid of 4 inches of the top soil and will dig in 4 inches of new compost.  Sulpher bomb burning in there now to kill anything else.

My questions are:.  Do I need to do anything else?

I have tomato, cucumber and peppers all growing on my windsill.  Should I plant them out yet?  I notice comments on tomato turning blue so perhaps I won't put that out just yet.  But what about my cucumber which are 3 to 4 inches tall now.  My peppers are tiny still, should i wait until they are bigger?  Should I plant all directly into the soil or are any better in pots.  The previous owner has set up some kind of pole thing along the top of each bed with little grooves so I can put in bamboo sticks to use as support - that is great isnt it?

I cannot tell you how excited I am  :D  My god it looks so LOVELY.  Thanks to you all in advance

That sounds great, congratulations on getting a greenhouse!  I haven't sown my cucumbers yet, will do this next week, but I do have tomatoes which started life on my windowsills which are outside in the greenhouse now.  To be honest, it is still a little cold at night for them and the ideal thing would be for them to be out there during the day and bought in at night.  I did this last year religiously but this year I am trying to be a bit more relaxed and they are staying out there.  Mind you, I have them inside a mini greenhouse inside the greenhouse if that makes sense.  The other thing you could do is put them in the greenhouse and get them some fleece (poundland is very good for this) and put this on them at night time, it would depend how big they are.

Good luck  :)
