Hi, Im my original flock i had 1 brahma cockerel with 7 various hens, all over 1 year but under 4. Then we decided we needed to add our flock of 8 month olds to them, which consisted of 1 brahma cockerel, mainly brahma hens, a few jersey giants and a favve. so last night we added them in and put them on the perches and that was fine. But i opened the hen house this morning and both the cockerels were messes, although the older cockerel seemed worse off it was obvious he had won because he was chasing the other cockerel around and the other one was backing down. Suprisingly all the hens are fine and making no trouble what so ever. iv tried to clean the cockerels up a bit and put bits of antiseptic cream on ripped combs (they don't grow back do they?)but the older cockerel keeps going after the younger one, and im sure if i put theem back in the house tonight they will just fight some more, so what do i do?is there anyway they will be together fine?or is the only option to get ris of the younger cockerel, but i don't know who would want him in the state he's in.

Mia

with hens you usually have a top girl and it is the same with the cockerels. They will be fighting to see who is the boss and gets the girls. My 2 araucanas fought and at first my older one was the boss but after a few weeks this position changed over. They still do squabble but it is usually when the young lad sees the old boy treading one of the hens and then again last thing at night as the old one has to wait until the young lad is in bed. How much room do you have for them - we have half an acre and lots of trees, shrubs and other hiding places for them to keep out of each others way. I also have several coups so they always sleep seperately. Bleeding combs always seem to produce loads of blood amking it seem far worse than it really is.
Once the order has been established a sort of truce should break out.
The fighting is perfectly natural and this is how cock fighting came about
Staffies are softer than you think.

ah thanks, well we have about 2 an half acres so they have pleanty of space, and there coop is pretty big too, they can escape from each other easy its just when there locked in the house, we have a second house but the reason we moved them up there is because it was too much work in the morning going from one end of the garden to let them all out, then cleaning them and its so much nicer seeing them all together :) i just don't want them damaging them selves too badly or fighing to the death  i thought brahmas were meant to be completally subdued and calm with eachother, guess not  :(

Can you not have their houses next to each other?
You have to remember with these boys they were both top of their flock and now you want them to be just one flock so they have to fight it out to see who the daddy is going to be. It doesn't matter what breed they are they will still fight an interloper who wants their girls I'm afraid.

Like I said mine have to have seperate coups to sleep in - I wouldn't like to try mine in the same one. When I let mine out I let the old one get to his part of the garden before letting the other out - this helps keep any problems down to a minimum.
