I used pond netting with 7mm holes 3 years ago and watched the bleeping butterflys fold their wings and get inside  so good luck with yours............

Now I use old plain net curtains....they work a treat

Do they let the light in ok?  Must be quite cheap I would imagine?

Quite cheap when they are being thrown away

Light: my cabbages were fine growing under them last year, put it that way :)
I think that the debris netting, that gets used by many people, throws more shade

mumofstig...that's exactly what I watched the whites doing last year too, squeezing through the holes of my netting (I'm sure it was 7mm too) They were experts by the summer!!!
Penny, You might be fine with your netting, it seems to do the trick for some people, I just hope your butterflys are less cheeky than our Scottish lot!!!

Well it's been sold to me as butterfly netting, I quote

"Butterfly Protection Netting

A black, soft, strong, heavy duty but lightweight black netting which will protect fruit and vegetable crops. Excellent for protecting crops against cabbage white butterfly and birds. Mesh size = 7mm x 7mm"

so if it lets them through I'll be after a refund.  I've bought quite a lot of it!
Here's hoping.
Lotty holder since Aug 09... I've FINALLY finished clearing it! On with the p.lanting  ....
