They are looking good! It took longer for mine to get their feathers.....2 of them were walking round with naked drumsticks for months!! Good on you for rescuing them :)

What great pictures Soozandi, great to have a record of how much they've come on with your loving care. I'm getting two on Saturday, your pictures have prepared us for what to expect and how they can blossom when they get a second chance :) We'll be keeping a photo record of our girls' progress too :D

Hi Hermon, let me know if you are moving anywhere near West/South Wales and I can give you details of where to get battery hens there.  I had four a couple of months ago.   Should be a great B & B with lovely fresh eggs and happy chickens. Good luck

wow if we let our birds get in that condition we would be jailed by the rspca and rightly so but these battery farms are legal HOW WHY WHATS THE DIFFRENCE boils me to death. well done for helping them.
rspca were over our allotments last week looking at my mates birds wouldent tell me what he was looking for found out sombody had reported him for not having any feeders or drinkers in the runs, he has them in the sheds to stop crows feeding and drinking  so rspca was happy man.

£££££ that's the difference alan.

Roll on the day when it will stop  :!:   But with good food and plenty of calcuim to restore their depleted bones from excessive egg laying they'll live a good few happy years.  I have many friends who have rescued battery birds.  Quite a few hens are too "wrung out" to make it through but many do  :D

What great characters these ex-bats are.  We got 6 in December 2006 and we have had great comfort and delight watching them learn and grow to be happy free individuals.
Only one, (Psycho Sal) seemed to have real behavioural problems but the resident big birds soon put her in her place.  She still tries to bully the others at times but gets shut down pretty quickly.
Is it just me... or are they really more grateful than ordinary chooks!!
