They will bulb about late june.  Assuming you have them at something like a 9" row spacing, in my humble opinion, they would not take well to intercropping.  While it looks like there is lots of space between the rows now, once they get going they wont like the competition.

I'm sure there's something you can plant after the onions, either a quick growing summer/autumn crop and/or another overwintering one such as brassicas (they need lime) If you are doing a proper crop rotation, manure, then spuds come after onions but this would leave the bed empty til the next Spring.
I've got this problem as well. How does everyone else manage? I've decided not to grow spuds in the raised beds so I'll fill up with courgettes and salad stuff I think.......

I put late turnips in after my winter onions and garlic last year ...   I couldn't leave the space empty, but the rotation plan was a bit .... messed up!   ::)

What does it say on the packet?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

the roes are abt 9". I was thinking of growing beans in pot till mid june and plant them just before pulling the onios out. Is that a good idea? Worth giving a try?

Yes. When the beans are finished do a dressing of lime and pop in the hardy brassicas that you've got ready in pots. Make sure they're firmed in! They'll produce by March and you can plant something else.
I can't stand seeing empty earth. I've just pulled the last lovely parsnip and my rubbish swede and celeriac so I'm looking at bare earth and fretting........beans in there methinks.
