Are my chooks soft??
« on: December 13, 2009, 16:51 »
I noticed that a robin seems to have taken up residence alongside my chooks. I had always thought that chooks would attack/eat robins or other small birds if they could so I was pretty surprised to find that they seemed to be getting along?? Not only was the Robin pecking away in the run alongside my gals, it also used the coop as a shelter when a fox came over?
Is this normal or are my girls just softies?

Perhaps they view the robin as their very own pet  ;)

It certainly looks that way! Hope they aren't fattening it up for Christmas Dinner!

My girls also ignore robins, but have been known to attack sparrows.  The robin now know my routine and turns up when i go to let them out and even feeds from my hand now :)

We have several birds they sneak in to steal food from ours. They don't appear to notice.

We've a robin which seems to prefer to be in the chook's house rather than out in the cold. They take no notice of the many small birds which share their space (wrens, sparrows, blackbirds etc), but once had to be chased away from a crow which they were actually killing (7 onto one at the time).
