I have had an unfortunate incident with my aunts dog on the farm yesterday (Friday 13th!!!). We knew he could be savage but over time he got used to the hens so that we were able to let them out. However yesterday he went for the kill and took 6 of my girls.

I keep the hens in a run but i have always like to let them out for a couple hour every day. Obviously this will need to change.

I was wondering if its worth investing in one of those sonic repellers. (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Now-upgraded-Sonic-fox-repeller/dp/B000M3B57C) However do these things affect the hens. Does anyone know???

Not used one personally Guppy but have read that a few people on here do, and they don't effect the chickens at all

Great. I just read the reviews for them on amazon they dont seem all that great. But i will pick one up from the wholesalers this week and give one a go.

I have used one of these, it had no impact on my dog at all, she would happily lie next to it chewing her bone.
The fox didn't seem to mind it either, found one of my hens less than 4 ft away after an 'attack'.

Electric fencing/wire is the ONLY thing I would trust to keep my hens safe from the dog and foxes.
