Leek Moth....
« on: September 28, 2009, 18:42 »
I know this has been posted before, so forgive me.

I have about 100 plants, all affected to some degree.  I have heard that trimming it right down to a couple of inches may save them, however can you do this so late in the year?

I am worried that as the days shorten they won't have time to recover....

Next year, they are going under enviromesh, and to hell with the cost.

You only trim them to the lowest damaged point.

Will still grow to some extent but don't you eat mostly the blanched length?
Top tip for camping....don't go.

I've also got it again, 3 years running now, so trying them in a fleeced bath next year, or won't bother if that doesn't work.  Not sure about trimming them down, I've just dug mine out and will give them a good wash and salvage what I can in a soup, but some have been got at so badly they've pretty much disappeared!

Try this..since trimming mine have made 8-10 inches of new top growth and are still thickening up. :)

Drat, I wish I'd seen that post before I dug out my leeks!

Oh well, there's always next year :)
