Hello everyone,
About three weeks ago i posted about my young cockerel beginning to crow but he was missing the middle bit, the 'doodle' and just crowing Cocka-doooooo. We'll i'm pleased to announce that he's found his doodle and crows the whole Cocka-doodle-doo now

He's also discovered the difference between boys and girls if you know what i mean.......
AND he's finally worked out that he's bigger than the older hens now and has won his challenge to them. none of the hens are safe anymore.
Now please understand, I know about the birds and the bees and where baby chickens come from, but what I didn't realise was how violent the process is.
I have a couple questions and I was hoping you folks could enlighten me (pretty please?)
Will FogHorn's affections actually cause the damage to the hens that it appears to cause (feathers everywhere and heaps of unhappy noises from the girls) or is it not really as bad as it looks.
Will his passions subside a bit after the newness of it all wears off?
Right now i've got him sepperated from the girls in the chook tractor until i work out the best way to deal with him.
It doesn't make sense to me that he would naturally cause damage to the girls this doesn't seem to bode well for procreation if the mums are damaged in the process, BUT, as new as I am to the world of hens, i'm even newer to the world of cockerals.
As for Foghorns details, he's about 14 weeks old (ish) I still don't know his breed, he's mostly white with light tan neck feathers and some brown speckles on his wings. He's the size of my laying hens which appear to be Gingernut Rangers.
If he's going to be hurting the girls, i'll have to re-home him. I'd harvest him but the boys that found him made me promise not to eat him

Any help would be appreciated.
thank you
Violet
