We got three new hens yesterday 

We built an extention to the run to give the original hens more space until I let them out into the garden when home from work at 2ish. The new hens are are in the extension part, seperated by a wire panel.

Well, the old hens are making one hell of a racket! Is it stress? I've put some poultry booster into the new girls water, as it says it can help with stress, along with being a tonic. Going to put some in the old hens water too.

Have any of you had a real din being made when introducing new hens? I've read about the bullying etc, but not the noise. As an example of the noise level, the hens are 200 feet away from the house and we can hear them  :blink:

hi sarah, when i introduced my new hens, my others started to make a lot of noise, it was a kind of long drawn out cawwing noise as they strolled around (but very loud!) they werent flapping around or rosey as such, it was more of a loud constant whining!(they still do it occassionaly) but after they had sorted out the pecking order after a few days they settled down and as i said only do it now and again - i think it must just be a reaction to something new - although my little donna was doing it very early this morning as she was thinking about laying an egg, i tried distracting her several times but in the end i had to shut her in the hen coop as i was worried about the neighbours trying to have a lie in!  good luck with it all.
