Spinach and Chard
« on: July 11, 2009, 18:31 »

Something is eating my Spinach and Chard lots of tiny holes are appearing all over the leaves, There are no sign's of pests infact the only "life" i've seen on them is a couple of spiders (one white and pink spider which was very pretty and a red and black one) i left the spiders along figuring they are likely hunting the bugs causing the damage rather than being the culprit's themselves but other than that the plants appear clear.

im reluctant to spray them with something as they are my cut and come again crop which i harvest regularly.

Any idea's ??

Likely to be flea beetle, have a look here -  there's a couple of articles further down the page about this pest, which might be of use
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I have the same problem on the perp spinach.   Just taking off the damaged leaves,  which are the older leaves anyway and hope to pick the younger leaves faster.

Our lottie is next to a rape field and both teh flea beetle and the pollen beetle are said to migrate from there.  I've abandoned the sweet peas as I can't cope with the pollen  beetles.
My lottie looked idyllic location in spring when I started, just the lambs and the odd tractor  going past - now I'm finding out the problems.
