I think I have become a sheep
« on: June 07, 2009, 19:38 »
I am pretty sure one lot of my spuds are ready and I keep thinking about digging them up, but because its our first year, I am really concerned about looking a plum.

so because no-one else has taken any of their pots out, I am waiting, once they do I will

How mad am I

If they`ve flowered the tubers aren`t going to get any bigger, so dig them, and best of luck. A little tip, if you want to produce bigger spuds, when the flower buds form pinch them out. You want all the plants energy going into tuber production, not seed production. :)

I reckon it's worth taking the plunge and trying a plant or two even if the spuds are on the small size - theres nothing like the first of the season.
If you wait til they are all a decent size they will no longer be new potatoes at the end of the row.
Playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order!

They are called Nicola, a good salad potato apparently. I hope they are supposed to look like that. We were a bit worried because our plants looked like trees too!!! We have had a few of the more experienced plot holders asking what on earth we had done to them to get them so big!!! Was a bit worried they would be all leaves and no potatoes. Thanks John for the liquid comfrey advice, it seems to have done them really good!
