Pea-d
« on: June 01, 2009, 09:44 »
I've just eaten my very first home-grown pea ever.  It was delicious.

Now I have a question - I'm sure I'm supposed to pick the pods from the bottom up, like brussells, is that correct or am I just inventing stuff?

Thanks all the experts out there.

Eli xx ;)

You pick the peas as & when they are ready to be sacrificed, no matter whereabouts on the plant they are.

However, in general the bottom ones will be ready first, as they will be the first to have formed. Just because one at the top's ready - don't ignore it!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

If the peas are big enough pick them no matter where they are.

You will in time find a few that you have missed and are getting crinckly. Pick these off to keep the peas flowering even if they are beyond eating.

What variety are they Tracy?

It may be a little warm & dry for them where you are. I know peas that I've sown in the hotter months have not reached the height of earlier ones - never mind the accompanying mildew!

Petit does mean "small"!! :D

To be honest, I've not gown peas in your climate, but hang on a week or two & if this weather continues, I'll find out!

Tracy - if you want to transcribe what it says on the packet I'll try and translate for you.  :) Meanwhile I'll try and google.fr it but you might not have a reply today as the internet keeps going off. :tongue2:

Petit Provençal is also known as Meteor, allegedly.  Dwarf plants also allegedly according to the catalogue I have here.  ;)

Hope it helps :) :) :)

Link's working for me still.

Only remove pods when you can eat what's inside! The plant knows best.
