I now have no chickens.

Over the course of a month I have lost two to red mite and some kind of animal had them last night.

I am gutted.

I think my days of keeping chickens are done.

I am so sorry to hear your sad news boxfanman. I have only recently taken up keeping hens and I am not sure if I could handle seeing my girls come to harm. however, I have had so much satisfaction over the last 8 weeks seeing my son beam with pride over his babies that I guess I would be able to reconcile the fact that sometimes nature does what nature does. but best of luck and I hope all goes well

That really is so very sad, my heart goes out to you. Please stay around the forum, and maybe there may be a time you might decide its right for some more hens.

if you enjoyed keeping them DON'T GIVE UP , if you whitewash the inside of the shed with lime mixed with water that would kill the mites and would cost about £7 . mr welsh egg in cearphilly will be having pol in about 2/3 weeks , cost about £6 a bird for top layers and a little work with chicken wire can combat predators .theres always light at the end of the tunnel my friend
