x frame as suggested
« on: May 31, 2009, 17:15 »
hiya all

instead of hijacking muntjacs frame thread, i started another for my x frame  :)

now i can understand the pics from Kristen n Aunt Sally, thx

but i got 22 plants, so that will need 44 canes, is that a lot ? and does each plant kinda split into 2 to go up each cane,

sorry i not know this, but just want to get it right

thx jolly

You put one or two plants where each cane goes into the ground.

So that's either 22 or 11 canes only.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

You dont need so many canes !

Make some really strong structures about every 5 ft and use strong string (hop coir is best) for in between

Definitely agree with the others,

I'd put one or two plants at the base of each cane - so either 11 or 22 canes for the uprights, plus a few for the cross-pieces (depending on length of purchased canes, length of the row, and how much cross-bracing you plan to do)

Have a look at this basic diagram, which I did last year.  The bottom sketch is the X frame - you'll see a bean (or two plants if you prefer) at the bottom of each of the uprights

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
