Suggested tomato plants, please
« on: April 09, 2009, 18:34 »
I would really appreciate some advice on choosing tomato plants:  my main interest is in taste, seems pointless to spend ages growing tomatoes just to get the tasteless stuff I could buy at the supermarket, I would like indeterminate ones (already purchased some bush ones from the supermarket) some for turning into tomato sauce, some average salad tomatoes and some cherry ones, perhaps also suggestions for big tomatoes for stuffing.  I have read the information on the back of the packets but it all seems to suggest terrific flavours and John's book says, for example, Moneymaker isn't all its cracked up to be flavourwise on the packaging (I agree with this having tried some last summer).

Thanks

Carolyn xx :)

Costoluto or marmande for stuffing.  Sungold or black cherry for taste.  But that's only opinion, just wait a mo for several others to came along at once. :)
Cheese makes everything better.

Sungold was a favourite of mine last year too, very tasty.
Was intrigued by your Amish Paste 8doubles, so went along to Real Seeds...and spent a fortune   :D

For small ones I grow currant goldrush, currant sweatpea and mexico midget.
They make Gardeners Delight look large. :D :D :D

Not sure of other sites but for a fair selection have a look at
www.podseeds.co.uk

They have the bigger varieties as well. But the small ones are great in salads, you just have to catch them as they roll around :tongue2: :tongue2: :tongue2:

I don't often get to give advice on here (often lurk or ask for help) so I thought I'd put forward my nomination.

Black Cherry-it is SIMPLY the best!  Yum!

P.S DD if you are reading this - I did manage to find some seeds last weekend and I am waiting for them to show themselves!
