Layla has wind puff
« on: May 27, 2009, 11:46 »
just got back from vets as i was sure yesterday that layla who has gone downhill since the weekend felt puffed up!! My vets are brilliant! although they admit they dont know alot about chooks, I told them what i thought was wrong and what needed doing and although the vet said she had never done it before she said she would have a go!! (thankyou again guys as i would never of known what it was had it not been covereed on here!)
Layla is still very poorly but they have ordered me some auromycin for tomorrow as they will all have their last baytril tonight!!
I want to give her the best chance but if there is no change tomorrow i need to let her go!!! its not fair on her!!!!

Debbie

Oh thanks Joyfull  but I gonna get a tub to keep, especially with all these babies around! my vets are very reasonable! todays emergency appt + the treatment and then another 20ml baytril and syringes was only £12! if it was my old vets it would of been 4 times that amount  If anyone has any advice on anything else i can do as it seems to of puffed up again!!! should i let her go or get some large needles off the vet tomorrow and do it again?????

If it was me I would gets some needles off the vet tomorrow seeing as you have to go there anyway to pick the Aureomycin.
Have you added your vets details to the chicken friendly vets page? Even if they aren't  chicken specialists at least they are prepared to listen to all our advice.
Hope everything is ok with the hens and babies.

I just dont know what to do for the best!! she could wake up tomorrow a bit better like nugget!

sorry debbie, I don't know what to suggest  :(   You must decide what is best for her (maybe wait and see how she is in the morning), can she come inside for the night for a bit of extra tlc?. Feel helpless not being able to help.

So sorry that she is not improving. It's a really hard decision to make, isn't it. I guess if she isn't inproving from the infection point of view she will just keep making the wind puff bad and decompressing her doesn't shange the cause of the problem. I think as you say the problem is if she is suffering is it right to keep her in distress.

I'm so sorry you are having such an awful time and I really hope she picks up.
