I would guess a bit more info is needed. What sort of soil, how did you plant it etc.

I am not an expert, it just grows like a weed for me, full sun, shade and even under a hedge.

Any chance of a picture.

Rhubard takes a long time to settle down - 3 years before you can start pulling stalks. I planted my new one last year and it was quite bonnie, but then looked as if it was about to croak.  This year it has 3 manky leaves, but is growing. So next year .. who knows.  The other one is about 45 years old and is HUGE so this year I split it up and replanted one of the crowns. It will take 3 years to settle down again, I hope.
So, wait and see.

Thanks for replies, the soil is acidic, but I've added lots of compost to border, its in a partially shaded spot but I'm now wondering about root system, it is near to a large rosemary bush & a very small holly tree, unfortunately my garden is rather on the small side so most things are a little too close to one another, you should my mini asparagus bed! this year is trial & error year! Incidently I've just had a peek & theres a new leaf appearing in the middle :) so maybe all is not lost! Thanks again.

From what iv heard on the plot if you leave the flowers on it dies back so every year i cut my flowers of and it grows fine iv only had mine for about 2or3 years so i wouldn't worry and if you dont cut the flowers of do because it might just be true
