Brussels sprout beans???
« on: May 21, 2009, 18:44 »
Hello all
As I was watering my brussels sprouts this evening I noticed that beans are appearing!  Is this normal or am I not growing BS after all.  They were sold as BS to me and did look like them up until about a month ago when they started shooring up thinly and flowering yellow.  Now they have very fine appriox 10cm long beans.  Anybody know if this is normal?

They are not beans. They are seed pods.

When did you put these in? I've yet to plant mine out.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Aha! I bought these in October, they were not doing much throughout the winter and when I finally dug my veg patch I added them and have been looking after them.  Since them they have been shooting up like crazy.

Brussles sprouts are planted around this time of year.

If indeed they were sprouts October would be 5 months late. You should be thinking about harvesting them in November.

They havent produced any sprouts since I bought them in October, just been growing very slowly...now they are at the 'bean' and flowering stage.

If they were what they were supposed to be, they would not have had time to grow mature sprouts.

Looks like they skipped this stage and went on to produce flowers, as they would at this time of year anyway.
