Hello. Me and my partner has just started to have hens in our garden. We have 4 ISA Browns which we have just bought from a respectable Poultry farm in Southmead just last week. One of our chickens, Nugget, laid egg and it was a very scary looking egg! There was like a sac (or part of her uterus) that was attached to the egg. When i lifted that sac, there was a tube underneath that was attached to the egg! My partner said that it could be because it was her first time to lay eggs. I've tried researching but unfortunately found no information about it. It hasn't stop bothering me (maybe because i have no idea about it!) and hopefully some of you could shed some light on this.

Sounds like she just hasn't got the egg production thing quite right yet and the membrane wasn't formed correctly.  If they are only just starting to lay they can produce some weird and wonderful things.  Make sure that they have enough grit and oyster shell available for calcium.

I agree with Rae you can get some very strange eggs to begin with  Don't suppose you took a pic? I know it sounds grim to take a pic, but it may help as other people have had weird eggs and may have had similar.

thanks for all your replies. All 4 chickens are laying eggs just fine now so i supposed it was just nugget's system was still preparing to lay eggs.
