One of my pumpkin seeds has just popped up yesterday and unlike the others on this one the tips of the leafs were black, they have fallen off so now I have two half leafs with a yellow tinge...... is this a lost cause??

The first leaves are not true leaves and will fall off eventually anyway. The plant will likely survive as I have one that did exactly the same and it is just being a little slow to get off the mark – healthy true leaves are appearing now. Probably the seed pod ripped the ends of the leaves – you didn’t pull this off by hand did you? (I did and that’s what caused my problem!)

yeah, it'll be fine - my pumpkin seeds germinated INSIDE the pumpkin this year ( )
and the ones I put into pots are fine, even though some of them had half-leaves or seed-cases attached to them (that i had to pull off).
they look more healthy than the ones that came out of the packet!
