WHEN to protect from carrot fly?
« on: April 08, 2009, 11:58 »
I have started some carrots in pots in the greenhouse, tubs outside and on row on the plot. I was wondering if their was a certain time that the carrot fly's come knocking as they are presently unprotected?

I know they peak around July?? but didn't know if the little blighters would be getting to my carrots yet?

"some carrots in pots in the greenhouse"

Carrots hate being transplanted - are they peat pots, or paper one, or somesuch that you can plant "whole"?

Sorry if this is Granny + Eggs!!

These are the small round variety of carrot (Parmex?) and some others in 12" pots, they are going to stay in the pots until being eaten (hopefully by me and not the fly!).

I cover mine after sowing, I would trust "safe" months as it would be dependent on the weather ect.
