There's a new book out this week called Chicken Runs and Vegetable Plots by Charlotte Popescu (isbn 9781899470297 priced £6.99).
It's got a section on what plants you need to protect from your chickens and what they'll avoid.
It looks quite helpful, actually, for coping with chickens and allotments at once!

Mine eat:

• corn
• layer pellets
• corn on the cob (keeps them busy)
• frozen corn and rice (thawed out) mixed with layer meal and moistened
• grapes
• tomatoes
• rocket
• watercress
• kale
• melon
• grass and weeds
• wild bird food, especially sunflower seeds
• each other (just kidding - though my ex-battery hens try sometimes because they must have got into the habbit of pecking one another before I got them)
• wholemeal bread
• worms
• slugs
• snails
• creapy crawlies in general
• berries (elder-, straw-, black-, blue-)
• apples
• plums
• pears
• cooked leftover veg

But not all at the same time!

For a treat mine really go for white bread. and meal worms.
