I found that giving mine too much potato made my eggs very starchy.

Mine get all of our table scraps (except the meat - the cats get that) but I also give them bird seed, bread, they're even partial to cheese sandwiches (which they steal from me at the lottie   )

Well the question should be what don't chickens eat

Mine love veg peeling but they will only eat them raw, even potato peelings   .....if I cook them they turn their noses up at them!!

mine lurve raisins/sultanas/currants in any order! Lettuce and tomatoes are pretty popular too! In fact I think the only thing they weren't keen on (had a few lurking in a pack at bottom of cereal cupboard!) was sugar puffs!! Don't blame them really - kids cereal is vile!
Tried them on weetabix and porridge - they loved that!
Too much pear gave mine the runs!
Enjoy experimenting
Hellooo! I am new to this site and relatively new to keeping chickens but what fun we are having! would love more and hubby coming around to my way of thinking! Kids in love with them!

Ours appear to like the odd apple that was left over from this years crop, porridge, pasta and general left overs, so they cant be too fussy on the whole.   I expect that if they did not like a particular food they would not bother eating it?   Our dog on the other hand is a fussy blighter.

Hi does anyone know if they can eat swede peel. I'm just worried as often green near the skin could it be toxic?

My hens like left over cereal soaked in soya milk. raw or cooked brussels, cabbage, cooked, swede, potatoes/peelings. They love raw spring onion tops, broccoli leaves/florette's and grapes.
Not keen on lettuce, carrots. cooked corn or peas.

I give mine a cooked peeling breakfast every day which can include potates, carrots, turnip, brocolli, cabbage, brussels and the outside leaves of the cauli.  They do get pellets everyday as well but love scratting about the dish of peelings for their favourite bits.

Definitely no citrus fruits though, or avocado for some reason. Or green bits of potato.
