Manure from homebase
« on: December 11, 2008, 00:49 »
I am strapped for time and dont have a car so I'm looking to use packed farmyard manure from homebase and their multi purpose compost in my first raised bed, and also on the newly dug ground on my plot ( my first ) does anyone know if theres any issues using packaged manure?

I guess it might not be as good as stuff from a heap but it's all i can do at the moment.

definitely cheaper from a farm/stables, though I then leave mine a year or so to rot down a bit more.  but have used the prepackaged stuff (and still do) at home, don't want a load of horse poo dumped on my newly cleaned block paving!!  It works fine, is clean to work with and doesn't smell, well not too bad anyway.  I guess its also screened for weeds etc too, unlike the farmyard stuff, but doubt you could use it for a hot bed.

Hi Mr Burns,
I get mine from SCATS, find them cheaper than any where else around Salisbury. Often get a good deal on their split bags.
Chris.

Cheers for the responses, I think i'll use the packaged stuff as a starter so i can get things started while i sort the new plot out. So much digging to do lol.
