pumpkin plants and weeds
« on: November 03, 2008, 17:06 »
Hi,

I have a patch of land that seems to grow weeds no matter how much effort I put into removing them so I have declared it is derelict. However I know that pumpkin vines are quite large and so perhaps they would be able to grow regardless of the weeds?

I will give it a try next year anyway.

You'll want to clear a nice circle or whatever for the young pumpkin plants to go into and keep that immediate circled weeded until the plant starts putting on growth, then you can leave it. The vines and leaves will quickly swamp all the soil in the area and make it harder for the weeds. BTW, pumpkins need rich soil to do well so add lots of old manure.
