No Flowers on Pumpkin Plants
« on: July 15, 2011, 11:14 »
:(  I don't have any flowers on my pumpkin plants!  I grew them from seeds that I saved from last year's batch.  Lovely, healthy plants - no seeds!   >:(
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

When did you sow them? Mine are only just coming into flower.

Could they have crossed with any other nearby cucurbits? They are very promiscuous and you can get all sorts of unwanted results.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

You sure the seed you grew last year's plants from weren't an F1 variety?

That shouldn't stop them flowering, as both parents obviously did!

I have no idea what type the pumpkin was that I got the seeds from  I am so glad, however, to know that yours are only coming into bloom now.  I'll give them a second looking over tonight before allowing the hens at them.  The hens are marching around the fence looking very eager to get in there!

My pumpkins and squash have really only come into their own this week too - flowers (inc females) and they are finally starting to trail across the bed. I gave them a feed late last week so I'm not sure if that perked them up or the gorgeous weather this week.

Don't give up yet! ;)

If you think they're slow on the uptake, try butternut squash!
