Weeeel.. i applied for the plot in the end and did not get it. 4 people out of a possible 20ish said yes and i wasn't the furthest up that list who did. The situation i am now in is if that plot (9B) is abandoned by the person who said yes (unlikey with a years free rent) i'm either next in line for it or next but one. I'm now 18th out of 25 people waiting for a plot on Lime Street allotments, ellesmere port.

When I viewed my plot (paid for it sight unseen!!) it made my back ache.  I complained to my local council that I couldn't afford the hundreds of pounds it would cost to clear it and, you know what?  There is a little fund tucked away that can be used for such purposes....

Next time I visited, the unpaid allotment manager plus helper(s?) had hacked down the very large patch of 10ft high brambles/raspberry canes which hid two bikes, several carpets plus other junk, put some of the carpet on a patch of my allotment to kill the weeds and rotavated two large areas for me.    Didn't really want the rotavating because I knew there was bindweed, but hey, I spent the next couple of months in late Winter/early Spring digging, manuring, removing abouty 600 miles of bindweed root, etc. etc.  But the bliss of being able to pick my own veggies this year!!!  My patch is looking good and even now I am  claiming back the under the carpet bit  (surprisingly easy to dig).

Try having a moan at your council before you give up completely....?

Never mind Mike. There's bound to be a few who give it up over winter so you may go a few places.

Keep your trowel shiny. It will be used one day. :D

I've been reading this with interest and not a little incredulity.......

How if there's a waiting list in excess of 25 does a plot get into this state?
