I have langley gage, leveller and hinomaki green bushes and something is eating the langley gage but not others nor my white currant which is near by.
Any ideas on how to stop this?

I'll put money on gooseberry sawfly!

Yes the little sawfly caterpillar - small green and voracious. A barnch can be stripped in the blink of an eye. You can pull them off or if you are not organically minded some of the general purpose bug sprays will kill them.
I suspect some of the plants you buy from garden centres etc come with the sawfly already resident. Important to get rid of them before they spread to your other bushes.

I have been looking but I have not found any so far.  I did see a grasshopper which I moved to the back garden (the gooseberries are in the front garden).  But why would sawflies pick on only one bush.

If you had bought the bushes recently I would guess that the infested one arrived with the eggs or whatever already in it - somewhere in the middle down at the base. I had one which could only have been pre-infested as I was setting up a garden in an urban wilderness of brick and concrete and patios  ie no other established gardens at all let alone fruit bushes on a brownfield site - so could only have come in on the plant.   I have to admit I gave it a good spraying - that was last summer and there has been no repeat this year. No I planted them over a year ago.
