too early to plant gooseberry?

Gone a bit mad at the garden centre.

Bought loads of seeds and potting trays etc, plus a Martlet gooseberry. Is it too early to plant it now? I'm a bit worried that we are going to have a few more frosty nights...

Hi

If it is bare root it can go in now.  I have recently brought one but lotty is not ready for it at the moment so I have it in a pot.

I've just got back from the lot planting bare rooted grapes, raspberries and strawberries.  Best time of year while they are still dormant.

I bought a few plants, which were supposed to be bare root but have started to grow, should I keep em on my kitchen windowsill or plant em out :?:     One was a red current I think (oops through out the wrapper  )   and tother is a magnolia.

Do not keep them indoors. These are hardy plants and while you may lose any early foliage the rootstock will survive. If the ground is frozen, either pot them up or stuff them in the compost heap with the roots covered until conditions improve or the ground is prepared.

If it is growing and in full leaf it must be hardened off before planting. This requires putting outside during the day and bringing back in at night for a time to toughen it up.
