Is there anything that you shouldn't give to your hens??

I have been giving them all sorts of peelings recently and they eat it all up but I am worried that I they may be having something that they shouldn't.

I was reading this months Country Smallholding and was really surprised to read that it is apparently illegal to feed scraps from your kitchen to your birds. Think that defeats one of the reasons or at least bonuses of keeping them. Not entirely sure I believe it and it certainly won't be changing what I give to my girls.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

I have been saving my peeling (And the mother in-laws) (Potato, Swede, carrot, brock, cflower, leek) and blending down some of the larger harder pieces in pellet size and keeping it in the fridge.  the girls love it all and what ever I put out is gone in about 15 minutes.  I have found that I can make the peelings from Sunday go to Wednesday/Thursday and it may help to cut down on the feed buys (I only have 2 girls but they still like to eat a lot)

How about tomato, raspberry, blackberry, goosberry, recurrant, stawberry and rubarb leaves & the fruit from these?

My coup is very near all these.

My girls love redcurrents and gooseberries and would scoff the lot, ripe or not, if allowed. Rhubarb leaves are poisonous (to humans and chooks) however other than snuggling together under them mine are not interesed in them at all. Also not shown much interest in the tomatoe plants although love toms pretty much more than anything else!

Our chicks are in a bit off woodland near the house. They get all the kitchen waste as it comes out. Everything except chicken and eggs.
They either eat it or it rots down as compost. Occasionally we go in and pick up orange peel, pineapple tops or anything looking unsightly.
Cant do this in a small run but it works fine on the large area.

I used to give my girlies uncooked veg peelings, mainly potato, and they loved it but their eggs were a bit starchy so I stopped.

they still get the occasional cabbage and lettuce that's grown on too much and plenty of treats
