i manure my brassica cage in the autumn and lime it anytime now,as for chicken pellets they are a feed and thats it they dont add humus or any structure to the soil at all
your doing right mel(in my books) if the plot has had no muck like you say get it dug in
i dont mind the odd forked carrot they all taste the same
