my new lot of ex batts
« on: August 03, 2008, 23:11 »
Hi all soz not been around much yet again
I picked up 4 more ex batts last sunday. i know sowwy.... they were in a right state and still wont venture out the hen house unless i herd them out and block door off soon as doors open back in they go. 1 looks worse  than the other 3 she is almost *oven ready* got next to no feathers. the farm they came form must have been really bad as the lady i collected them from offered me a refund as i paid  for 6 nad got 4 the other 2 were too ill to be re-homed.

so with these needing more care, my mum and 5 babies i got from the auction....... (2 have extra toes but i luves them anyway) the 3 growers i have at home i have been rushed about.
anyhows heres the pics of the ex batts well really the worst one un named as yet

one or two of them are laying increadbly with the state they ae in i didnt expect any eggs from them

Poor souls. Its amazing how they recover from looking like this

There are three signs of old age. The first is your loss of memory, the other two I forget.

One of my ex batts died last night, not too sure what was wrong but she was just standing all forlorn yesterday and when I went down today I found her. The other 5 look in fine fettle and their feathers are growing back very quickly. Your pics are what mine were like 2 weeks ago.
By the way a big thank you to everyone for the good advice you gave about keeping them separated.
Keep Ahaad

Hiya Nettynoodles!

Am so sorry to hear you lost 2 of your ex batts (i presume they are the ones i got for you?).  Mine are doing quite well but the one who was oven ready like your newbies is not very good.  Although her feathers have come back she seems to spend all of her time asleep and hunched up  :(   another one of the girls has got a damaged wing as she cant hold it up properly.  I do have a fat one!!!..she was chunky when i fetched them and from observing them in the garden i can see why...she doesnt stop eating from the moment she wakes to the minute she goes to bed.  She only had a bare chest when i got her so i presume she spent the whole day in the battery cage with her neck out troughing

Where did you get this lot from?  Such a shame that they are in this condition...its hardly surprising they dont want to venture out

x
