Personally this year I have had more pests and diseases than ever.

Powdery Mildew
Downy Mildew
Halo Blight
Potato Blight
Botrytis
Rust
Onion Shanking
Thrips (polytunnel infestation)
Spider Mite ( " " )
Whitefly (" " )
Carrot Fly.

So I was wondering,has this year been worse for you regarding pests and diseases, the same, or better.

Very few slugs & snails

Had blackleg on the Winstons, but apparently B'leg is something in the actual seed, ie poor quality stock

Load of rot off on small squash?

Some damage on peas but had so many it didn't matter

The main pests have been squirels and pigeons

Much fewer for me: Blackfly on my first row of broad beans; Cabbage whites on my sweeds; and a few onions with white rot.

I've beaten the carrot fly this year

Don't know if it's because we planted everything out really late, but we hav'nt had any problems at all :?  :oops:  :oops:

My main problem since is started 3 months ago has been the local wildlife eating things (pigeons, rabbits, and pheasants). Even now i have netted frames round everything and i think theres the odd caterpillar eating my runner bean and PSB leaves

Some plot holders have become obsessed with protection, especiallly with  sweetcorn, prison camp structures are everywhere.
Fox loves corn, odd eh. Especially given the proliferation of pigeons.

The tree rat has to be the worst, reason being, they don't eat much, but destroy everything.

This year is only our second but so far we are doing ok with the pests. Def better than last year with the flea beetle, blight, black fly, onion wotsit...

I've yet to see a slug on our plot this year.

Seems to me like anyone down south has done OK.

Up here I've had about 4 days of sunshine and 30 days of rain and cold weather in the last 6 weeks.

Hence all my mould/mildew problems and all the thrips and mites seem to have taken refuge in my polytunnel.

It's felt like Autumn all bl##dy Summer so far up here and nothing looks like improving looking at the forecast.. :cry:  :cry:

We haven't had too much sun here in t'Midlands but the thing that gets me is the wind every day.  It's like living by the coast without the smell of salt (sez he as he sets off on his bike to work ...)

Defo the same my way. I should think, a lot of stuff got hold unnoticed in the rot all last year and also, a great many not upto standard seeds were produced and sold.

Very good season here as for the weather, so can get ignored easily, but it's true and it's there. More diseases I've encountered on the ground just in my own crop than in the last 5 years in everybody's round me.
