Leggy Plants HELP!
« on: June 08, 2008, 23:51 »
Hi,

I have a plot at the bottom of my stables, but the problem is, there is lots of trees around and although it's quite light, the sun only really gets through for about 2-3 hours a day, tops.

I have 4 rows of broad beans that seem to have grown about 6 foot high, and the beans are all falling off before setting, and my arran pilot (first early spuds) are also really leggy and have fallen over due to being about 4/5 foot high.

My question is, is this due to the lack of sun and are the plants growing bigger than normal to try and reach for the sun.

I have lots of greenery but no fruit/veg! :( :(
Mange Tout are sooooo easy to grow....shame that parsnips and carrots aren't!

get some baling twine and stakes and support both .make sure they are getting plenty of water ,the trees will be why they ae reaching out for light

put more soil / manure /compost around the tatties to make the mounds support them as well this may even increase the crop
still alive /............

Any chance you could raise the canopy of the trees? That could make a marked difference :)

Peas do not seem to mind a bit of shade.

Maybe that would be a good place for peas next year.
If it rots compost it
If it burns burn it
If it is chocolate eat it
