[Kate and her Ducks]

It has been an anxious 48 hours but 10 of the 13 eggs have hatched and the brooder is full of peeping scurrying ducklings. They all seem in good health except one who hatched yesterday lunchtime  and still seems really weak, not running about or drinking like her brothers and sisters. Hoping she will pick up with a bit of time and TLC but worried she's not going to make it :cry:
Generally very exciting though. I hatched them for my Aunt who can't come to coming to pick them up for a week so will ahve to steel my self fro giving them up. Will be able to visit though

Haven't quite worked out how to post pics in a thread but I have uploaded some into my personal gallery and will have another go later :?

nice one . if you have probs with the weak one drinking use a straw like a pippete, just put it in warm .. room temp ,, put your finger over the end and just offer the end of the straw to the chick ,,,,,, let it have the end on its beak and it shgold start to drink from it

Congratulations!! Really chuffed for you! Being a foster mum is a great pleasure i'm sure you'll find. I foster humans, but have to prepare myself for goodbyes too. ((hugs))

All you have to do for the pics is click IMG when you are posting.. then post the URL/address of the picture.. click ok and job done make sure no gaps at the end of the address though.

Thanks Muntjac for the advice, have found a pippette and will give it a go.

Thanks Porffor for posting my pics for me  :oops: . Must work out this computer thing at some point as it's really starting to look like it might not be a passing phase after all...

What sort are they - we have 12 runner duck eggs coming due in 48 hours and getting quite excited!

They are white Campbells and gorgeous. The wobbly one is one of a couple I ahd to help out. They seemed to have dried out a bit and got stuck. The wobbly one seems to be marginally better with the advice from Muntjac but still no out of the woods.
The rest are fab. They all cuddle up together in a big scrum and then something will set them off, running about like mad things, pecking at the food and the water untill they collapse in a heap together and are almost instantly asleep again.

Yipee!!! The weak one seems to have rallied over night. Was improving gradually over yesterday woth the water from the pippette so started giving a sort of chick crumb broth with a bit of hardboiled egg yolk in it the same way. By bedtime it had started to stand and preen a little and was opening its eyes and peeping a bit. This morning it is hard to tell apart from the others!!!

Thank you again for the advice Muntjac, it looked like it was a goner yesterday.

A bit!!! I have to get up for work at about 6.00 so that was getting up. Notice that you weren't that far behind me    How are your runners coming on? You must be really excited by now. Mine are all doing really well.
