HI, attended a seed swap/food link event in Durness, north coast of Scotland. Picked up some interesting seeds etc. Got hold of some potato tubers, only three, as the person giving them out only had about a dozen. She claimed they originated from Scandinavia and she knew them as Swedish Blue. The tubers are also blue veined inside, although I don't want to cut one open to check. I have looked in my potato books and the internet but can't find any reference to them at all. I think they may be Salad Blue potatoes but if anyone can shed some light on this let me know.
I intend to grow the tubers in large bins just to see what happens .

Salad blue and Shetland black are the candidates I know of, I'm growing some first time this year, so can compare notes, if you like. :D

PS not forgetting Edzell Blue of course. A well known Scottish variety but no Scandivian background so far as I know.

I am also growing some weird & wonderful tatties this year. Check out Thompson & Morgan who are doing a heritage potato package for just under £20. I grew Edzell Blue last year  & they did very well will only slight slug damage.

i have seen these but the thought of blue mash puts me off

My Ma in law grew some last year, looked really pretty raw, but a bit dingy when cooked, the grey/purple mash was especially disgusting. I think roasting them is the best way to keep their colour.
