A week ago we had pruned some of the orange trees and the branches are at the end of the garden.  We had been getting 4 or 5 eggs a day from the hens and as we were only getting 1 suddenly we just assumed (well I did) that the hens had started to go off laying (they are in moult too).  We were getting just 1 egg a day in the nesting box (have 5 hens laying).  The neighbour called me down and asked me if I had any eggs for sale, said no, just getting 1 egg a day, she laughed and said to follow her.  She said have a look in the branches piled up by her gate- low and behold there were 14 eggs!!!! :D  :D  :D  :D  We had looked and looked to see if they were laying elsewhere, it was only that the neighbour heard the hen cackle as she laid the egg so she went to investigate :D
So the girls are back in my good books and tomorrow I will bake some cakes and merangues and a lemon merangue pie :D

Pop the eggs into water to see if they are fresh.  Discard any that float  :D

My daughter and I found 17 eggs this evening hidden away in the builders yard again. They really have a thing for the builders yard!  Earlier on I had seen one of them settled down on the other side of the neighbours fence and after she had moved there were 5 perfectly formed eggs there. The only thing is my OH will have to squeeeeeeeeze behind the shed to get them!

Last summer my neighbour and I had been out for a wild asparagus hunt and on the way back the neighbour found a nest with 12 or more hens eggs, the hens free range everywhere here.  So the neighbour tested them all in water, none floated, so she ´kindly´ gave me some-  the first I broke was all gunky like a chick had started to form then stop  .... naturally I did not open the rest!!
