I have just walked past my asaparagus I planted last year & there are two
spears just appearing, last year they were just ferns.  I only planted 3 crowns  that were cheap at the end of the season , I am sooo excited !!!

I got 6 plants last september that i got off another plot holder and there is still no show, i am wondering if i should dig them up and move them to a sunnier spot in the garden

Mine never shoot this early, don't worry they'll come , depending on variety and local conditions.

when you finish the picking on them .leave the ferns till spring cut them down to about 2 inch above the ground .then lime them

I guess one requirement for asparagus growing is patience in abundance!

I planted 20 organic crowns in Spring 2006 (10 wild asparagus and 10 purple).  Only saw one or two spears that year, and left them to grow.  Ferns followed as expected, which were cut down once they'd died off.

Last year saw only 3 or 4 spears (still didn't cut any!), but quite a few fronds followed.  Have cut them down now and mulched with manure (limed previous year and hear it's not good to lime and manure the same year).

Still keeping my fingers crossed for enough to have some to eat this year otherwise I'm going to be very sad. :cry:

We've just been given 10 crowns from some friends of ours - they'll be planted tomorrow but now we begin the waiting game!

Still, plenty of time to find the best recipe and dream of bountiful Springs
