What to sow in late August?
« on: August 22, 2023, 11:21 »
Good morning gardeners,   just gurgling to find what to plant in a small area of soil recently vacated by P.F.A spuds, about 5' x 10'.
This came up:-

Vegetables to plant in August

    Lettuce salad leaves.
    Young spinach leaves.
    Oriental leaves growing out.
    Rocket plants.
Young corn salad (lamb's lettuce) plants in modules.
Freshly harvested spring onions. What the heck does that mean?
A bunch of turnips pulled from the earth. Ditto!
    Chicory ready to harvest. Ditto

It must mean what to harvest surely?

If you can answer my original question, please do.    Cheers,  Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Hi Tony
I’ve just sown some carrots today as an experiment after harvesting my onions.
In theory they should be in by July but these are only small ball like carrots so they don’t need to grow much! Also I picked the seeds up in a 50% sale so I’m not risking a lot either.  Cheers HH
Keep digging

I made the last sowing of carrots 2 weeks ago, in the greenhouse I've started turnips, swede and cabbage to go out on the allotment although I need to remember some hoops and netting for them though as I keep forgetting to take with me

I'm trying pak choi, under nets;  plot partner says its always bolted before but hope that shortening days fix that.  Also some more chard, hoping that it comes in after the current stuff has bolted next year.
Spring onions disappeared last time I did them.  Should try again
