"Chocolate pudding, with carrots for sweetening"....oooooh! Grannie!
Used to stop at my Gran's ever weekend, as a kid,
Saturday morning Nan would send me down to "Ernimans" the grocer.
'Pat' of butter, slice of bacon and a couple of eggs,
Bacon hanging as high as the sky(I was young an' small then/once) over
barrels of butter, chests of loose tea and broken biscuits,
if I was polite and remembered me 'P&Q's,' ole Erniman, would put a few in paper bag,  bicuits that is :(
An' if Pop's were in a good mood when Nan had cooked his breakfast,
He'd dip a big chunk of bloomer loaf into his egg and bacon fat,
it were 'eaven. :)  :)  :)
Memories......of the way it were!!!!!

(Bacon Above Butter ???---NOW-TODAY????)

Bye PAH  :) ,in and lickin' me lips :)

LOL PAH, you're showing your age now mate!!  How old are you?  My Dad used to make me tiny sandwiches with his breakfast.  A square of bread, a bit of bacon, a bit of egg, another square of bread then dip it in the juices from the fried tomato!!!!!!  It was lovely!!!!

If you are watching Harry Dobson then the next program is a re run of Geoff's last series, which his brother does some of the narration as Geoff died before completing it.

Another interesting prog is on the Country Channel with Paul Heiny, again about war time , but quite good.  Are they tring to tell us something with all this let's get back to food production?  Mind you, with an American 60% wheat crop failure last year, it probably is a good idea.
"Things" are the theives of time.

So what if Jamie doesn't do it all himself!? I'm sure he's just like anyone else who has the gardening bug- works hard at his usual job and gets out and about in his garden when he can, but as his garden also supplies some of his restaurants, of course he needs some help! I'd have a bloke who knew what he was doing helping out in my garden if I could!!

So there's not much in our ages then PAH!!!  lol

Actually there was a shop just like you described in Clacton until just before we moved away in 2002, but when the old man died, the family sold it and its now a takeaway or something!

But he had loads of old stock in there sunshine faded and everything, and he still kept the little provision counter and the old ladies would go in for just a tiny bit of cheese, or 2 rashers of Bacon!

Going through that door was like going through a timewarp!!!!!
