Chrysanthemum extract a natural insecticide
« on: May 08, 2006, 17:03 »
Just used Chrysanthemum oil extract for the first time on some aphids on my runner beans and aubergines. I mixed 2ml to 1L  of the oil with some washing up liquid seems to be working (May be the washing up liquid though!! Anyone else tried this??

Never heard of this but soapy water does have an effect on its own.

pyrethrum is often to be found as an active ingredient in pestacides. next time you`re at the garden centre have a look at the boxes! but it is a "natural " chemical `tho. :D

Thanks Biscombe - that's nice of you to say. Yes, pyrethrum I've heard of. Poisonous to fish I think?  I used to keep tropicals.

I've noticed a few ladybirds around this year already so perhaps nature is gearing up for a load of aphids.

Lots of wasps as well for some reason. My wife has been stung twice this year so far. Once in the garden and one got into bed with her! That woke her somewhat earlier than usual.

Those cheeky wasps!! To me they seem like dogs, if you give them inkling that you are afraid of them they attack or pester you!!!!
