Supporting runner beans
« on: March 12, 2021, 16:11 »
Has anyone got experience with wigwam cane grips and can recommend a make or style? I will be growing them in a raised bed once my first crop of pak choi is done. I did this last year but jerry rigged my own support which simply collapsed! I had ordered dwarf beans so was caught out when they proved themselves to definitely not be dwarf!

Hi,  I tried the wigwam cane grips once - never again. Being plastic they degraded and broke. Ever since then I have just used the good old system of grabbing all the canes together at the top and tying them together with lots of twine. Never failed me yet... :D

rather than bring the canes together we have tried with success using fencing wire or similar wrapping each cane leaving 3 to 4 inches between tops this leaves top of wigwam more open giving plants more room at top
hope i have explained ok

I use thick canes secured at the top with a heavy duty cable tie - quick to deploy  and v. secure
