When I saw seed pots, my mind went to "pots in which seedlings were growing".  I've only had 63 years to learn English, give me another 50 and I might get the hang of it!   

After a frustrating morning spent speaking to call centres in Mumbai and Scotland, my Norwegian pal turned to me and said "Does nobody in your [BEEP] country speak English?" - later that day we checked into a London hotel. Luckily one of our party spoke Spanish and was able to sort it out with the receptionist. You couldn't make it up.

Back on topic, have you got anywhere near you that sells seed potatoes loose? If so you could grow Charlotte again and also try a couple of plants of something different to see how they do.

I have gone away from Charlotte this year, had two bad years, probably my fault, so have returned to my tried, tested and reliable Maris Piper, with some in 42 ltr buckets in the polytunnel to force an earlier crop.

There are many good tasting second early potatoes. Here's just a few: Colleen; Kestrel; Maris Peer; Nicola; Sarpo Una. Or, 'late planted' or 'grown on' Arran Pilot (thus, a first early variety becomes a good second early).

Thanks for the replies everyone. In the end, I decided to go with charlotte again - just had my seed potatoes delivered this afternoon. I do always pick a different variety of first early potatoes each year though - this year I've gone for Maris Bard.
