My 1st time growing cauliflower, and of my whole row one of the plants produced a fist sized curd and I was delighted. Next visit, all the leaves I was going to tie together have been pecked to oblivion, I assume by one of the fat woodies that waddle around the site, which had hopped into a hole where the wind had taken some of the netting up. Wind is my No 1 hate. Greedy pigeons coming in close at no 2.

Having lost a lot to pests so far it looks like I'm going to have to net everything next year, not what I wanted but seemingly necessary...

Unlucky, it does seem like a constant battle against the pests, I have to battle rabbits, pigeons, moles and mice, but I think myself lucky that I don't have to deal with deer and badgers that even fencing won't stop.

I resorted to buying two cheap polytunnel frames 2m by 5m and putting wire around the whole lot.  Engineered doors into it.  Now only tiny mice and bees can enter.  I got so fed up with birds stripping my cabbages, broad beans and sweetcorn.  Now I only grown them in these cages.  I alternate what I grow in there.  Took me blooming ages to do them but so glad I did.
