Rust in garlic
« on: March 31, 2018, 20:40 »
Can anyone advise me if it's safe to replant cloves of garlic which had rust on them last year ?
I'm new to allotmenting  & thinking it may infect other plants around them?
Thanks for any advice.

I've been growing garlic from the same original bulbs for more years than I can remember - some years they get heavily rusted, others (eg last year) next to nothing.

It's possible the spores can be carried over in the bulb sheaths, but the spores are wind borne so environmental factors are probably the biggest factor. Good spacing and an open aspect helps.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older
