. I just have a problem understanding what is new about it.

I think his point is that there is nothing new about it. He makes the point that it is a permaculture system, just emphasises the importance of a "skin" on bare earth.

I enjoyed the witch piece as well. I had never thought of rain being a "sacred cleansing ritual for the garden" possibly I will never think about that again, but did make me smile.

I don't think he's really touting it as something new...on the contrary, he is rather pointing it out as being as old as Creation and effective all those years hence and he was just new in discovering that truth.  Much like anyone else with something that works and works well, they want to share it with others.  Particularly if one had worked so hard to eek food out of a garden in dead soil and little water like he had been doing.

And now it's new to me(but not really, as it's been staring me in the face all these long years just like it had him), which is why I'm so enthused, as I have heavy, dead clay soil that grows well enough but not without a lot of work each year, and I'd like to have a more efficient and more effective method of getting food out of this soil.

I'm always looking for something more self sustainable, in gardening and in animal food production, as well as  more effective and ergonomic solutions in my homesteading chores.  I see no point in futile routines that take up more time and effort than they should each day, week, month, year.   Seems the older I get the more I want to work smarter, not harder.   :)

I can certainly relate to wanting to make the most of heavy, clay soil. Raised beds is the way to go for me given the sodden heavy soil here and wood chippings we have too!

I might be another convert but best get round to watching the video first!
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

I have locked this topic now as it is becoming rather contentious.  I have removed the post concerned.
