Leaf-mould from the street - worth it?
« on: October 26, 2014, 17:11 »
Apart from looking slightly eccentric, how do you think the value of leaf-mould from the street might work when you consider there might be horrible stuff (dog poo?) in there as against all the benefits of the leaf-mould itself?

Cheap as chips, diy preferred
Will swap root cuttings etc

There is a LOT of dog poo in the leaf litter round here....and lots of rubbish, drinks cans and the odd condom :(
It's pretty disgusting and not something I want to grow me dinner in.

I gave up trying to collect leaves from the street and made friends with my local rugby pitch groundsman. He collects them up from his dog free pitches....puts them in a pile to rot and I come and fetch them once they're rotted right down.

There are some really nasty and persistent pathogens in dog poo, one in particular causes blindness.

Oooer! I had quite forgotten about that pathogen. I agree with you, I wouldn't grow my dinner in it either.

You make a valuable suggestion - to make friends with a local parkie.

Charm offensive on!
